This discussion, from the perspective of a high level decision maker, will focus upon major government related construction projects, such as the Naval Hospital at Camp Pendleton, where workers were found to be extremely complacent from a safety and risk perspective. The unique approach of applying risk control strategies utilized by well-known industry giants such as BP and Dupont, lead to achieving worker “buy in” and valuable contributions to safety, rather than avoidance to safety.

Speaker Bio

Mike Williamson, P.E., has nearly 30 years of Naval experience (Captain, USN Retired) that focused mostly on construction management. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Virginia Military Institute, and went on to attend the Naval Post Graduate School. During his career, he oversaw the planning, programming, budgeting, and execution of numerous military infrastructure and other projects including sites in Hawaii and California. He is currently President of Pacific Coast Iron, a well known San Diego based structural steel fabricator and erector. He is also the current President of AGC San Diego.
