Ethics – Avoiding the Slippery Slope in Safety:
Perspectives for 2024 and Beyond

Dan Hopwood

Longtime chapter member, Dan Hopwood will share his perspective on ethics in safety for today and into the future; as we all have experienced in ASSP, at work and in other groups, ethics is a critical issue and for many, a mandatory training topic. He’ll review several challenges that may put us on the slippery slope to questionable or unethical safety management behavior, as well as those attributes that keep us focused on the positive climb up. The ethical relevance of decision-making, leadership and looking over the horizon will each be reviewed and factors that both challenge ethical dynamics and bolster sound behavior will be addressed. Dan will end his talk with his view to the five critical elements of an ethical beacon and what it takes to keep that beacon shining for today’s safety professional.

In addition to the impressive alphabetic array behind Dan’s name, he was recently recognized as a Fellow of the American Society of Safety Professionals.  We would be hard pressed to find anyone in the safety field who hasn’t been positively influenced by Dan’s expansive knowledge and tireless energy.  Join us on Tuesday August 13th to capture his take on ethics in our field!
