How ASSP Made My Safety Programs Better
Lee Donahue, SMP, CHST, CUSP, OHST, CIT
Lee Donahue, our outgoing Chapter President, had the unique experience of leading our San Diego Chapter through the end of the pandemic and into the post pandemic environment. There were struggles in these transitions with keeping members safe, maintaining member engagement and a sense of community, reestablishing in person meetings, and finding ways to continue providing professional development resources, much like we all faced in the workplace. Under Lee’s leadership, the chapter successfully reasserted itself as a leader in the local community and ASSP Society. For Lee, these challenges served as a training gauntlet for managing similar or greater obstacles at work. At our next chapter breakfast meeting, Lee will share key takeaways from his time as a San Diego Chapter executive committee volunteer and explain their relevance to our ongoing collective efforts to protect people, property, and the environment. These experiences proved invaluable in carrying over solutions to the workplace, ultimately revising his answer to the question, “What do you get out of ASSP?”
A San Diego Chapter fixture by now, Lee has been involved with ASSP in several capacities since returning to Southern California in 2015. Beyond volunteering with the Chapter, engaging in the Region and at National events has granted him wide experience with ASSP offerings. Lee has worked as an electrician, project manager, estimator, and service manager, and has been the Safety Manager at Morrow Meadows for over ten years. Never shy to engage in conversation or ask questions, he has obtained a unique perspective on how ASSP Chapters operate. This presentation draws on his experiences and observations from the past decade to showcase what ASSP offers and how that can benefit its members in their workplace.
